If You Don't Ask, You Can't Receive

Do any of these behaviours sound familiar?

  • A spouse or partner doesn’t pay you all the attention you want, so you sometimes shrink away and hide
  • A friend doesn’t notice something new about you, so you act a little colder toward them
  • You think you deserve a raise at work and resent that you haven’t received one
When you don’t ask for what you want but expect to get it anyway, you’re setting yourself up for sure disappointment.

Why? You're asking others to read your mind.

I know I get irritated when anyone in my life expects me to know what they want without asking, no matter how much I love them. I bet it’s the same for you with the people in your life.

Try an experiment this week. Ask for what you want from just one person in your life. Start small. Hey, could you help me with the dishes? Would you put the kids to bed so I can finish some work?

Then slowly build your asking muscle over time.

Keep track of what you ask for and what you receive. You might just find the world has been waiting to give you everything you want!
